Secret Histories and Spiritual Revolutions

A guided tour of the Western occult tradition, from the ancient initiatory schools to contemporary techniques for finding illumination, across six weekly sessions and fifty-five lessons.

The course covers Hermeticism, Gnosticism, Theosophy, the Ordo Templi Orientis and the Fourth Way, and traces their influence on current movements: the psychedelic renaissance, chaos magic, and the New Age quest for self-actualisation. Running through it is the long conflict between the pursuit of direct gnosis and the social, religious and intellectual structures built to prevent it.

It also takes the modern openings seriously — the 2022 Nobel Prize for experiments showing the universe is not locally real, and the revival of analytic idealism, both of which give ancient Hermetic claims a footing they lacked.

Alongside the history there is practice: meditation, visualisation, energy work and ritual drawn from the Western tradition. Live sessions are available for replay, with readings, course materials and a discussion forum.
